Deep Summer Academy

The Faculty of Science and Engineering at the Univeristy of Toronto is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications to our DEEP Summer Academy 2008, and our robotics immersion program, ROBOTX.

Deep Summer Academy: www.engineering.utoronto.ca

DEEP is designed to provide gifted and highly motivated high school students with the opportunity for enriched study in a variety of science, engineering, business and technology topics. Since its inception in 2003, DEEP has become one of North America's premier academic enrichment programs, with well over 5000 student participants to date. Here's a quick overview of DEEP:
  • DEEP is a program for highly motivated high school students, grades 9- 12
  • Students can take up to 4 different week-long courses in July
  • Courses reflect the diverse, cutting-edge research and academic options available in our Faculty
  • Students gain hans-on lab and design experience
  • Students also explore their non-academic interests in our After Class Clubs program
  • DEEP instructors are knowledgeable and enthusiastic graduate students with a passion for teaching
  • Students have the option to live in residence on campus during their DEEP experience
  • Deadline to apply: April 28, 2008

RobotX - Robotics Immersion: www.robotx.engineering.utoronto.ca

We are also pleased to offer high school students with a passion for robotics the opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of designing, building and battling a competitive "battlebot," from scratch. At the beginning of the program, teams consisting of 4 students and one Faculty advisor will start with a pile of gears, wheels and motors. By the end of the program, with a dash of creativity, strategy, teamwork and knowledge, teams will have a lean, mean battlebot machine! To round out the learning experience, students also attend seminars led by some of the Faculty's most innovative researchers in areas relating to robotics.

RobotX runs from Thursday, May 29 to Sunday June 1 and is open to all high school students across Canada. Interested students would visit the link above for more information. The deadline to register is Wednesday, May 14, 2008.

For more info please see Mrs. Amos or Mr. Walker in the Guidance Office.
