Fraser Institute Student Essay Contest

AWARD: $1000 (3 award available)
DEADLINE: June 2, 2008
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible you must:

1. The contest is open to Canadian and foreign students. A student is defined as someone who attended school in the 2007/2008 school year or is enrolled to attend in 2008/2009.

2. Secondary students will be considered in a separate category, with a cash prize of $250. Outstanding high school submissions will not be excluded from winning the $500 and $1,000 post-secondary prizes.

United Steelworkers

AWARD: $1000 (20 award available)
DEADLINE: June 30th, 2008
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible you must:

1. The scholarships shall be awarded to members, or sons and daughters of members, of the United Steelworkers.2. Recipients of scholarships must be prepared to show their level of education is sufficient to allow admittance to an approved institution of higher education, such as university, technological institute, nursing school, etc. People who have already completed some post-secondary studies are NOT eligible for this award.3. The student must complete an application form which may be obtained from the office of the District Director or from the Regional Representative of the United Steelworkers in the community.4. The application form, to be submitted no later than JUNE 30TH, 2008, must be accompanied by an original essay in either French or English of approximately 1,000 words dealing with one of the topics available on the company’s website.

Personal Support Worker - Acute Care

Personal Support Worker – Acute Care


Program Dates: September 29, 2008 – August 14, 2009 (certified after course is completed)

Program Offering: This is a Blended Delivery including online theory, lab and clinical. You must have access to a computer and the internet.

Expected Employment: In a nursing home or hospital setting

Prerequisites: High School Diploma, or Adult High School Diploma, or GED Certificate of High School Equivalency
Please provide proof at time of application!

Program Completion Requirements:

v 4 weeks of lab at NBCC-SJ
v 2 days of non-violent crisis intervention at NBCC-SJ
v CPR, Level C (student must obtain on own prior to clinical)
v 10 weeks of clinical practicum


Total Tuition: $8,500 - payable in three installments (subject to change) A $200 confirmation fee of (applied to tuition) is payable upon acceptance

Textbooks: $900.00 (approx)

Additional Costs: Uniforms, shoes, lab/clinical travel, stationery, etc. – approximately $575 (depending on travel requirements)


Language Requirements: If you have completed your schooling in a language other than English, you will be required to demonstrate your competence in English. For example, on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), you must have a score of 550 and a minimum of 50 points in each test area. You may also use the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) which includes a comprehension component. Tests for second language proficiency are at the expense of the applicant.
Note: The College reserves the right to cancel this or any program due to insufficient enrollment.

Personal Support Worker Program

Human Development Department at NBCC Saint John Campus is pleased to once again offer the Personal Support Worker program this coming September. This program prepares the student to provide care to the elderly in a health care facility. The employment rate of our past graduates is over 95% and students can expect a starting salary of anywhere from $13 - $18 per hour.

The career is rewarding and there is opportunity for the PSW's to advance to LPN status through further training offered by this Campus.

Admission requirements are that students have high school completion or the equivalent. We require an official transcript of marks.

Registrations are being accepted now and please note we do not have a registration fee for this program.

The Coordinator/Instructor for Specialized Health Programs, Anne Reid, and I would welcome an opportunity to speak to interested students about this career opportunity. We can provide information that would assist students with their choices, funding opportunities and the registration process.

The Hyslop Scholarship

 

The Hyslop Scholarship – Two scholarships, valued at $4800 each, will be awarded to one female and one male student graduating from the St. Stephen High School.    Applicants must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2008.

  Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a balance of academic performance, athletic involvement, sportsmanship and financial need.  Applicants should apply by June 4th using the generic application form available at the bottom of the web page.   Applications are to be mailed to:
